Luxury Wool Carpet — Fulham Family Home
The ground floor of this Fulham Victorian terrace had recently been refloored by another contractor in engineered oak. Our brief was to complement it upstairs: luxury carpet to all four bedrooms, the principal staircase, and the main and half-landings — 120m² in total.
Why Wool?
The clients had young children and made a considered decision to specify 80/20 wool-blend carpet rather than a synthetic alternative. Wool is naturally fire-retardant, resists crushing far longer than any synthetic, and has a warmth and depth that is simply not achievable with polypropylene or nylon. The initial cost premium is typically recovered in longevity within five to seven years.
The Staircase Fit
The Victorian staircase — 13 steps with bullnose treads and turned spindles — was the most technically demanding part of the installation. Each step required individual measurement and cut, fitted with tension under the nosing and anchored with antique brass stair rods specified by the interior designer.
The landing areas were fitted last, with the pattern aligned to run continuously from the staircase without a break — a small detail that most people won't consciously notice, but that makes the whole installation feel deliberate and considered.
Underlay
The Cloud 9 Cumulus wool felt underlay at 11mm is among the best available in the residential market. It transforms the feel underfoot — the combination of quality carpet and quality underlay is genuinely unlike anything a synthetic carpet on a budget underlay can replicate.
Handover
Two days on site, handed over clean and ready for the family to move back in. The clients subsequently referred two of their neighbours to us within six weeks.
