Open-Plan Office Refurb — Hammersmith
A media agency in Hammersmith was consolidating two offices into one refurbished floor plate as part of a post-pandemic workspace reset. The fit-out contractor brought us in to specify and install the carpet tile package across both floors — 350m² in total — in a weekend slot to avoid any disruption to Monday morning operations.
Specification and Design
The interior designer had specified an Interface planking tile in two colourways — Worn Concrete for the central working area and Linen for the breakout zones and meeting rooms. The two-tone approach, with a subtle colour-shift transition at the perimeter of each zone, creates visual wayfinding without signage: a technique becoming increasingly common in agile workspace design.
Interface tiles in this range are free-lay at the centre of the room, requiring only perimeter adhesive and edge strips. This makes replacement of individual tiles straightforward — a practical consideration for a high-traffic commercial environment.
The Weekend Install
Ten fitters, two floors, two days. Floor one was complete by 8pm Saturday. Floor two finished by 3pm Sunday, giving time for a full clean, edge strip installation, and a final quality inspection before handover to the contractor at 5pm.
The fit-out contractor's project manager confirmed on-site: "This is the most professionally managed flooring install I've seen on a commercial project."
Ongoing Relationship
This project led to a framework agreement with the fit-out contractor covering three additional London offices scheduled for Q1 and Q2 2026.
