Whole-House Flooring — Wimbledon Family Home

Wimbledon, SW19
All Projects

A complete flooring refresh across a substantial Edwardian semi-detached in Wimbledon — our most comprehensive single-household project of 2025. The brief was clear and the family resolute: engineered oak downstairs, luxury wool carpet upstairs, and a result built to last at least twenty years.

Ground Floor: Continuous Oak

We ran 190mm engineered oak in a light natural oil finish from the front door through the hallway, snug, formal dining room, and into the large rear kitchen extension added in 2021. Eliminating threshold strips between rooms required careful sub-floor levelling at the doorways — but the payoff is a seamless visual flow across what is actually five connected rooms, with a total continuous run of nearly 11 metres from the front door to the garden bifolds.

Upper Floors: New Zealand Wool

New Zealand wool twist carpet in Oatmeal was fitted to all four bedrooms, the principal landing, and the wide Edwardian staircase. The stair fit required 14 individual carpet sections, each tensioned precisely and fitted around the turned newel posts without a single wrinkle or pull — one of the more technically demanding stair fits we have completed this year.

The wool felt underlay at 10mm depth is a significant contributor to the finished feel. Many clients are surprised that the underlay they cannot see accounts for roughly 30% of the perceived quality underfoot.

Five Days, One Family

The family stayed with relatives for the week. On the morning of day six, they returned to what felt — in their own words — "like an entirely different house." The teenager's bedroom was apparently the most contested floor.
